General Indoor Sport Return to Play - We have developed and implemented a Return to Play strategy that complies with Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services and Alberta Gymnastics Federation (AGF) guidelines. We have received approval to open on June 16th 2020 from the Alberta Gymnastics Federation stating that our Return to Play policy and procedure plan was “fantastic!” A full copy of an updated Return to Play can be found at the bottom of this web page. Please see below for some general policies and procedures we have implemented. Further detailed information will also be communicated to families registered in programs.
Changes to Programs: First thing you may notice, is that we are currently not offering all of our typical programming. Due to Alberta Indoor Sport Re-Opening restrictions and guidelines, as well as being able to control a safe environment while maintaining the same quality of programming we have decided to temporarily cancel some classes and programs. Programs that require excessive spotting (ie. The Back Handspring class), or with age groups that will be difficult to maintain social distancing (un-parented programs for children 3 and 4 years old) will not be running at the moment. We have also closed our Drop In programs, Birthday Parties and general use programs until Stage Three of the Alberta Province re-open. We do hope to bring these programs back as soon as possible!
In order to maintain proper social distance throughout all classes, and to abide by the maximum amount of people allowed in the building, we have had to reduce the amount of classes and participants within classes. We hope to be able to run normal Airborne programs soon :)
What to Expect for Your Class: Coaches will be taking a more “hands off” approach than we normally do with classes during this stage. The primary method of skill development will be done through drills, rather than spotting. However, spotting will be used if necessary for athletes safety, or for skill learning. When coaches are spotting, they will wear a mask and sanitize their hands before and after each athlete. Our coaches have been working hard developing lesson plans specifically for this.
Athletes will be expected to maintain a 2 meter social distance throughout our classes. We have already sectioned off spaces on each event in order to maintain social distancing.
We also will be using equipment and props that are easy to sanitize and clean, before and after use. Some of our younger Active Start programs will actually be provided with bins to be used throughout class, containing fun individual props so there will not be any prop sharing through the practice.
Parent Viewing and Entry into the Facility: At this time, GymStars and Airborne have decided to close our viewing area. GymStars and Airborne want to reduce exposure to our athletes and coaches. There are specific Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures for all athletes. Athletes will be met at the door by an Airborne coach, they will be symptom screened prior to entry. At the end of class, coaches will escort the athletes out the front door. There will be more details sent to families prior to classes starting.
As we do have maximum number of people allowed in the building at one time, please make arrangements with us prior to registering for parent or aide participation with athletes. All parented programs have already been accounted for.
Drop Off Procedures: Athletes will wait outside before class start. Coaches will greet athletes at the front door 10 minutes before the start of the class. Coaches will then conduct the symptom check and screening. Athletes will then continue to a washing station to wash or sanitize their hands and proceed to directly into the gym area, or line up on a social distanced spot in the hallway. It is very important athletes are on time for class. If you are going to be late please reach out to this email address!!
Pick Up Procedures: At the end of class, athletes must wash their hands and proceed to exit the building immediately after class dismissal. To reduce exposure to our athletes and coaches, we will be locking the doors before and after drop off/pick up times. If you do need to pick your athlete up early, we can easily arrange that. Please respond to this email letting us know!
New Entry Screening Forms: As of Oct 28th, there has been a new daily and sessional screening form released for minors and adults. We will need ALL athletes to complete this new entry form prior to entering their building on the first day of class. This allows entry for the entire session. After completing this form, you will not have to fill out the daily form each class. Please bring this form already completed to Airborne on your first day. Parents of athletes in the Bounce with Me Program, or if an adult is joining your athlete in class, they will also have to complete this form as well. This can be found at the bottom of this page
Water Fountain and Common Areas: Due to AHS and AGF regulations, common areas such as water fountains, locker rooms/ and locker/cubby areas have to be closed down. It will be mandatory that athletes will be required to their own water bottler, along with some Hand sanitizer. We do hand sanitize frequently throughout practice, and it just makes it faster if athletes have their own. These items will be brought around the events and stations with the athletes. Athletes will also need to wear socks to training.
Masks and Socks Now Required: As Okotoks has recently made masks mandatory in all public spaces, we have implemented a mandatory mask policy for anyone over the age of 2 in the common spaces of the facility. This means anyone in the facility is required to wear a mask in the lobby, hallways and bathrooms. Once participants are in the gym, they can take their mask off while participating.
AHS requirement that all athletes in bare feet must wash their feet before entering the gym area... To make this a bit simpler, we are going to require all programs to wear socks or trampoline shoes to class. Please ensure your athlete brings socks with them when they come to training.
Hand Hygiene: Coaches and athletes will have to wash their hands when entering facility and before leaving. We have sanitizer stations set up through the lobby and gym area. Athletes are also encouraged to hand sanitize between events. Coaches will be teaching with a “hands off” coaching style. If they do need to step in for skill safety, coaches will wash their hands before and after spotting. As well as wear a mask. However, this will only be done so for safety reasons.
Cleaning Protocols and Sanitization: Airborne has increase sanitizing and cleaning of common areas such as the lobby area, hallway and bathrooms. We have also scheduled equipment sanitizing throughout the daytime and evening classes. Airborne is using Government of Canada approved cleaner on all surfaces.
